Large-scale Waikato waterfront farming opportunity

After almost 20 years of family ownership, circa-700ha of sheep and beef country in the proven Te Ākau district between Hamilton and Auckland is on the market offering scale, an extensive range of improvements and exclusive access to a West Coast beach.

Ranworth Farm at 45 Te Ākau Coast Road has more than 1.4km of beach frontage to the west coastline north of Raglan, and boasts outstanding scale, natural landscapes and unspoilt sea views.

With 682ha mixed contour land across seven titles, Ranworth Farm was acquired incrementally to form a significant landholding and combines two fully functioning farms, each with its own infrastructure and both having undergone extensive fencing and sound fertiliser regimes.

Currently operating as a productive sheep and beef unit, the property has traditionally wintered in excess of 3,400 M/A ewes plus replacements and more than 140 cattle, with all stock finished on the property.

Water is supplied by both bore and spring water and the broad array of infrastructure includes a four-stand woolshed, implement shedding, covered sheep yards, cattle yards, stables, and a first-class airstrip with an extensive well-fenced laneway system providing on- farm efficiencies.

The four well-kept dwellings across the titles, including a sprawling five-bedroom main homestead in established grounds, provide ample accommodation for owners, manager and staff.

The farm is for sale through Bayleys. with the option to buy stock and plant at independent valuation and tenders closing 2pm Tuesday 14th November, unless sold prior.

Bayleys Waikato rural salesperson Peter Kelly says the productive farm with recreational benefits is a unique investment opportunity for forward-thinking buyers, including family farming entities looking to scale up, and astute investors seeking a compelling rural acquisition.

“The opportunity to acquire really good farmland with this scale between Hamilton and Auckland doesn’t come up very often and with the current owners not having a succession plan, it’s a truly generational opportunity to purchase a legacy farm. “The land has been faithfully farmed and run along traditional lines, and a new owner may well identify ways to diversify the property both from a production standpoint and by creating recreational-aligned revenue streams to leverage the locational advantages.”

The property is 60km from Hamilton and 125km from Auckland Airport making it well-placed for a commercial eco-tourism operation given the 1.4km exclusive beachfront frontage.

“There’s a rustic two-bedroom cottage on the coast where you can catch a fish, pick mussels, or dive for crayfish straight off the private-access beach,” says Kelly.

“This opens up potential for an authentic New Zealand getaway experience for paying guests, perhaps in conjunction with coastal walks or other recreational activities as the farm also has several duck shooting ponds plus deerstalking and pig hunting on its doorstep.”

The property has a QEII covenant protecting 9ha of native bush, a further 5ha of native bush and 14 hectares of pines (post-1990).

Kelly says Te Ākau is a friendly community with good local schools and the Te Ākau Waingaro Community Complex is around 7km away with sporting grounds and other amenities positioning Ranworth Farm well for a growing family.
